Grown out of entrepreneurship – made for founders

What makes us special is the combination of Michael Scholz's own experience as a founder and entrepreneur and a platform that brings together capital, expertise, and partners.

About us

scalum GmbH was originally founded as an investment vehicle for Michael Scholz's own startups. He used it to bundle his entrepreneurial activities in the areas of banking, financial processes, and technology, creating a basis for the establishment and development of new business models.

Following two successful exits - the sale of cogon AG to Hanse Orga AG (now Serrala Group) and ementexx GmbH to the Lucanet Group - we are now making our experience, capital, and network available to other founders and entrepreneurs. We do not see ourselves as a traditional management consultancy, but rather as a business angel, entrepreneurial advisor, and sparring partner on equal footing.

Our focus is – but not exclusively – on the areas of SaaS, technology, banking, fintech, payments, cloud, AI, and aviation.

„Following the successful exits of my own startups, I am now making my experience, capital, and network available to founders and entrepreneurs. Whether in the cockpit or in business, precision, discipline, and foresight are the foundations of sustainable success.”
Michael Scholz

Founder, Owner & CEO – scalum GmbH

In addition to his business activities, Michael Scholz is also a passionate private pilot. For him, flying is more than just a hobby - it stands for precision, discipline, and foresight: values that he also embodies in his entrepreneurial activities. With his pilot's license, he combines a fascination for technology and innovation with entrepreneurial thinking. Aviation is not only a personal interest for him, but also an environment in which he provides impetus and receives valuable inspiration in return – whether through new contacts, technological developments, or the unique perspective that flying offers. At the same time, it serves as a source of inspiration for new perspectives in business and investment.

Entrepreneurial Milestones

The most important milestones in Michael Scholz's career and the development of scalum GmbH.

1983

First steps into the world of computers with a Sinclair ZX Spectrum Plus, followed by an Atari ST, later an Amiga, and finally the first PCs. Even back then, Michael Scholz began developing his own programs - a defining starting point for his enthusiasm for technology and software development.

August 1989

Started his professional career as a banker at Dresdner Bank - the first step on his path to banking, financial processes, and payment transactions.

December 1993

Moved to the banking IT side of Dresdner Bank, specializing in electronic payment transactions and assuming responsibility for the conceptual, functional, and technical development of its electronic banking products.

January 1997

Started out as a business owner and entrepreneur - initially as a freelance application developer and project manager with a focus on optimizing payment transaction processes.

March 2000

Founding of SC-Data GmbH (later cogon AG), which specialized in consulting and development in the field of cash management and electronic banking.

2000 to 2001

Technical and technology consulting for Deutsche Bank in the field of electronic banking.

2002 to 2003

One of the key projects at that time was the conception and development of an asset-backed transaction system, including the technical connection to the bank's interfaces and the processing of payment transactions.

July 2003

Founding of SC-Data IT Services GmbH (later ementexx GmbH), which initially operated a bank application as a ‘private cloud’ – at a time when this term was still rarely used, but we had already identified the trend and successfully implemented it.

Early on, a holding structure was established with SC-Data Holding GmbH (predecessor of scalum GmbH), which also served as an investment vehicle to bundle and strategically develop the various business activities.

September 2007

Conversion of SC-Data GmbH (later cogon AG) into a stock corporation and further establishment as a solution provider for electronic banking in the market. In his role as a member of the Executive Board, Michael Scholz was responsible for application development and research, IT services and infrastructure, as well as IT governance and compliance.

April 2010

Restructuring of the group of companies: SC-Data AG was renamed cogon AG and SC-Data IT Services GmbH was renamed ementexx GmbH - SC-Data Holding GmbH became what is now scalum GmbH.

June 2012

Successful sale of cogon AG by scalum GmbH to the former Hanse Orga AG – now part of the international Serrala Group.

November 2012

First, ementexx GmbH expanded its focus as a product- and vendor-neutral consulting firm for electronic banking, payments, and cash management before evolving with ennoxx.banking into a leading SaaS solution provider for companies in the banking and cash management sector.

August 2023

Successful sale of ementexx GmbH by scalum GmbH to the Lucanet Group - a portfolio company of private equity investor Hg Capital. As managing director, Michael Scholz then supervised the integration of the company into Lucanet's international structure.

April 2025

Michael Scholz leaves the management board of ementexx GmbH after successfully completing the integration and handover to the Lucanet Group.

October 2025

Strategic realignment of scalum GmbH to support founders and entrepreneurs as a advisor, investor, and business angel - with a focus on advisory services, investments, and startup development.
